How to get to Almeria

Almeria has an international airport, which is served from the UK by Ryanair, Easyjet, Monarch and also by Air Berlin from all major German cities all year round. There are also interesting offers by Iberia via Madrid.
In addition and as an alternative daily air services to Alicante, which is about 275 km east of Almeria and Malaga, about 220 km west of Almeria, can be used. The transfer from/to Almeria airport or as the case may be from/to Alicante/Malaga airport will be done by myself. I'm happy to assist with organising the air travel..

Biking in Spain

Moteros del Sol - Motorradtouren in Andalusien Even on the national roads there's little traffic in comparison to the crowded roads in Central Europe. The moment you will get on the little state and regional roads you will often not meet another vehicle for hours. Villages may be separated by 30 km and more, something you will encounter all over Spain given that Spain's population is just half of for example the population of Germany while its surface exceeds that of Germany by 1/3 (91.2 inhabitants/square kilometer). Road surfaces on the national roads are in general very good.

On the state and regional roads the surface may be rougher, but still showing good grip. On these roads and in general on the 3 tier roads with less maintenance you have to count with possible dirt, sand on the surface (due to erosion) and your driving style should be adapted accordingly.

The net of gas stations is good, though biking in Andalusia / Almeria, in particular in the outback, should always be done with a reserve of gas for about 50 Km (which one will anyhow calculate). Spanish car drivers and bikers are friendly towards bikers. The speed limit on the motorways is 120 Km/h. On national roads with emergency lanes the speed limit is 100 Km/h and otherwise the speed limit outside villages is 90 km/h. Some stationary radar control stations can be found on motorways, national and province roads, tendency - increasing (a little comfort is that before reaching a stationary radar control you will be warned by corresponding traffic signs. Mobile speed controls are done by civil cars of the Guardia Civil. On the whole it is advisable to not exceed the given limits to much, since the applicable fines can easily reach several hundreds of EURO and your driving license may be retained. An excess of the permitted speed by more than 80 km/h may be punished with prison sentence.

However in respect of the narrow, little roads preferred by the biketours undertaken with the Moteros del Sol in Andalusia /Almeria this is in general no issue, given that in the solitary interior there are nearly no speed controls and the extreme winding roads do not permit a huge excess in velocity when driving reasonably.

Bike-tours in Andalusia / Almeria mean motorcycling in solitary landscapes, surrounded by untouched nature which in the lower levels is formed by karst landscapes and grown with wild macchia. Climbing up to higher levels, you will encounter vast pine woods, cork and chestnut trees. In the little, picturesque villages time stands still and the population with its natural cordiality and hospitality often convert a little talk during some tapas to a memorable event.

Thanks to the aforementioned mountainous landscape it is an easy thing to find all over Spain, routes which for more than 200 km/h are veritable orgies of curves. In Almeria such routes often lead you up to 2.000m altitude and more, whereby you need to conquer rampant serpentines.
